In the afternoon of 27 June 2017, the Opening Ceremony of The International Conference in Environmental Finance (ICIEF 2017) took place at Ton Duc Thang University. The conference lasted two days with the participation of many scientists, experts and researchers from different countries, such as: Italy, Australia, Turkey, Philippines, Hungary, Taiwan, Malaysia, China, Mauritius, Thailand and Vietnam.
Global warming and its consequences have become an important international issue that has led to agreements and international laws to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and their potential impact. The promulgation of these agreements as well as their associated environmental laws have influenced a number of sectors, including economics, accounting and finance in various ways. Among them, environmental economics and accounting have been studied intensely by academia, although the discipline of environmental finance is rather new. ICIEF 2017 aimed to introduce this issue to researchers at Ton Duc Thang University and across Vietnam and was also a forum for international researchers to discuss and exchange information. Moreover, the conference was an important source of scientific information, a conversational platform as well as an experience-sharing forum regarding environmental laws and their influence, the impact of environmental disasters on financial markets, green credit and market behaviour.
ICIEF 2017 connected Vietnamese enterprises with researchers from all over the world, laying the foundation for an annual conference on environmental finance at Ton Duc Thang University for years to come and contributing towards the improvement of the quality of teaching and research activities of international publications at TDTU.
